Jorge Medina, a PhD student at the Spanish Institute for Cross-Disciplinary Physics and Complex Systems (IFISC) has come for a three-month research stay at the Sequeira Lab, to focus on the development of machine learning techniques to better predict marine animal trajectories.
Jorge holds a BSc in Physics from the University of La Laguna and an MSc in Complex Systems from IFISC. He is now completing his PhD under the supervision of Prof Victor Eguiluz (Basque Centre for Climate Change), who is a long-term collaborator of the SequeiraLab. Through his PhD, Jorge will bring a different perspective to approaches commonly used in marine ecology. He was able to share some of outcomes he already has achieved in a seminar presented at the ANU Research School of Biology. The work Jorge is doing is a step towards integrating more advanced AI techniques into marine ecology.
It has been a pleasure to have him working with us, and we wish him success in completing his PhD!
