SequeiraLab is excited to announce that the recent publication led by Ana Sequeira on a standardisation framework for biologging data has made the cover of Methods in Ecology and Evolution! The collaborative project involved more than 40 contributors, including key members of the Integrated Marine Observing System (IMOS), Australian Ocean Data Network (AODN), Animal Tracking Network (ATN), Ocean Tracking Network (OTN), and the International Biologging Society (IBLS) whom came together following the Marine Megafauna Task Team (MMTT) workshop at the OceansOBS'19 conference in Hawaii. The resulting paper: "A standardisation framework for bio-logging data to advance ecological research and conservation", provides a framework for data flow from manufacturers through to repositories ensuring integration of all the necessary information for accuracy-of-use, rightful attribution and data preservation security.
This research provides a valuable addition to the movement ecology literature, especially in current times when data derived from bio-logging devices is increasing at unprecedented rates. The outcomes of this work are also crucial for the ongoing project MegaMove - a global initiative led by Ana and involving hundreds of marine movement ecologists from around the world! Stay tuned for more news!
