Welcoming Zuzana Zajková on her research visit to the Sequeira Lab

We are delighted to welcome Zuzana Zajková, a postdoctoral researcher from the Institute of Marine Sciences (ICM-CSIC) in Barcelona, Spain, to the Sequeira Lab for a one-month research visit. During her stay, Zuzana is collaborating with lab members on approaches to improve management, standardisation, and interoperability of seabird tracking data. Her visit provides an exciting opportunity to strengthen international collaborations and advance efforts to make movement ecology data more accessible and usable across research and conservation applications.

Zuzana is a movement ecologist who completed her PhD in Biodiversity at the University of Barcelona. Her research combines animal tracking and spatial modelling to investigate how seabirds use marine environments and respond to changing ocean conditions. She is currently part of the SHIFT project from the iMares group, where she is contributing to the integration of seabird tracking data with species distribution models to better understand patterns of seabird distribution at sea.

As part of her visit, Zuzana presented her research in the Ecology and Evolution Seminar Series from our Research School of Biology here at ANU, through a talk entitled “Where seabirds go and why: following animals through a changing ocean.” Drawing on research across multiple seabird species and marine ecosystems, the seminar highlighted how animal tracking and spatial modelling can reveal the environmental conditions that shape seabird movements and inform effective conservation strategies.
