Ana attends the 2024 Pew Marine Fellows annual meeting in Bali, Indonesia
Assoc Prof Ana Sequeira attended the Pew Fellows annual meeting in Bali, gaining insights, networking, and collaboration opportunities in marine conservation.

Our lab lead Assoc Prof Ana Sequeira , who is a 2020 Pew Marine Fellow, was in Bali recently for the Pew Fellows Program in Marine Conservation annual meeting!
Ana's involvement with Pew has been extraordinarily rewarding and productive! For example, it was through her Pew Marine Conservation fellowship, that the MegaMove Project led by Ana has emerged. The Pew Fellows annual meetings are an excellent opportunity to forge new collaborations too. The recently published papers led by Ana: “A framework for optimising opportunistic collaborative syntheses to propel ecological conservation” in Biological Conservation (featured here), and “Ecosystem services “on the move” as a nature-based solution for financing the Global Biodiversity Framework” in npj Ocean Sustainability (featured here), both emerged as a result from previous annual meetings.
Every year, Fellows from the Program meet up for a few days of knowledge exchange, collaboration, and camaraderie with other fellows and programme alumni. These gatherings provide a unique platform to share innovative research, discuss pressing marine conservation challenges, and forge collaborations that drive impactful solutions. It’s also an incredible opportunity to strengthen networks with leading international marine scientists dedicated to protecting our oceans and their biodiversity.
As part of this year’s Annual Meeting, Ana was able to join in on a couple of fun activities organised by the program too! One of them included a scuba dive at Nusa Lembongan, at a dive site located in front of a mangrove forest! This site is home to beautiful and thriving coral colonies, and a rich biodiversity of marine organisms. And the other was the welcome dance performed by the Sanggar Seni Saba Sari (traditional Bali dancers featured in the picture) at the opening of the meeting.
Ana had a wonderful time at this year's meeting and has already started working on the next big collaboration with other Pew Fellows!
Many thanks to Pew for organising such a meaningful event!
