This week, our Lab lead Associate Professor Ana Sequeira has been at the Canberra’s iconic Shine Dome to attend the fantastic event: Science at the Shine Dome 2024, the Australian Academy of Science’s flagship event. This event is an annual gathering to bring together Australia’s top scientific community and celebrate their exceptional scientific achievements. This year, the event was particularly special because the Academy celebrates its 70th birthday!
It has been a fantastic week and an invaluable opportunity to network with leading Australian scientists across diverse fields and reconnect with esteemed peers. A significant highlight for Ana was the Awards Ceremony where she received the prestigious Fenner Medal 2024, presented to her by Prof Chennupati Jagadish, the President of the Australian Academy of Sciences, and who is also based here at the Australian National University. The Fenner Medal honours outstanding research contributions in biology by scientists up to 10 years post-PhD. This accolade is a testament to Ana's dedication to marine science and marine megafauna conservation.
The event’s gala dinner on Wednesday was held at the National Arboretum Canberra, and was graced by prominent guests including Her Excellency the Hon Ms Sam Mostyn AC, Governor-General of Australia, and the Hon Ed Husic MP, Minister for Industry and Science.
Many thanks to the Australian Academy of Science for the opportunity to be part of such an inspiring event!
