Ana visits the Max Planck Institute for Animal Behaviour in Germany
Ana has just returned from her visit to the Max Planck Institute for Animal Behaviour in Germany, where she gave a seminar and connected with incredible researchers.

10 September 2024
As part of her recent trip to Germany, Sequeira Lab lead Assoc Prof Ana Sequeira visited the Max Planck Institute for Animal Behaviour in Konstanz, Germany, and was hosted by Professor Dr Martin Wikelski, the Director of the Department of Migration of the Max Planck Institute of Animal Behaviour and Honorary Professor at the University of Konstanz.
Ana gave a seminar on global marine megafauna movement and conservation at the Institute, and met with many fascinating people working on all things animal behaviour across the globe! She also had the opportunity to drop by during one session of AniMove, a renowned two-week intensive training course for studying animal movement in conjunction with environmental parameters derived from remote sensing.
While at the Institute, Ana had the chance to take a look at the amazing facilities, which include a fantastic aviary, the great Hennhouse, and an Imaging Barn, all of which serving to assist the development of new experiments to help better understand the movement and behaviour and animals and the sharing of knowledge.
Ana also had the opportunity to witness the (almost production line of) tag preparation! A team of MPI researchers led by Prof Wikelski are preparing a large number of tags for deployment in large terrestrial animals (such as elephants and rhinoceros) in Africa. It was fascinating to see how these tags are so vastly different from those that we use here at the Sequeira Lab for our marine megafauna!
Thank you very much to the Institute and Prof Martin Wikelski for the warm hospitality!
Ana looks forward to being able to visit the institute again in the near future.
