We are excited to report that Charlotte Birkmanis has been awarded the 2020 Student International Travel Scholarship from the Australian Society for Fish Biology. This merit-based scholarship supports a researcher to present their work at an international conference. Charlotte won the award based on her first thesis chapter Shark conservation hindered by lack of habitat protection published earlier this year in the peer-reviewed journal Global Ecology and Conservation. She will use the funds from this award to present her research on where pelagic sharks are and how this has changed over time to an international audience in 2021.

The Australian Society for Fish Biology promotes research, education and management of fish and fisheries in Australasia. The Student International Travel Scholarship is awarded annually to the highest ranked research paper on any aspect of fish biology or fisheries (including molluscs and crustaceans), as judged by the Scholarship Committee. This award is intended to encourage and support postgraduate researchers. Congratulations to all who won an award in this challenging year!
