Jaiden Lane has joined us as an Honours student at the Sequeira Lab at the Research School of Biology, Australian National University (ANU)! Jaiden's research will focus on developing methods for mitogenome sequencing which test natal homing hypotheses in green sea turtles, under the supervision of Rod Peakall and Ana Sequeira. His work will involve analysis of samples the Sequeira Lab collects through the Gathaagudu Animal Tracking (GAT) Project in Shark Bay. Just this week, Jaiden has presented his initial seminar, titled "Population genetics of green sea turtles: Insights into breeding, migration, and conservation”, describing the aims of his Honours thesis and the work he is planning to conduct throughout the coming year.
Jaiden majored in evolution, ecology and organismal biology at the ANU, specialising in genetics, and is particularly interested in the population genetics of marine megafauna and its conservation implications. He has experience working with plants and animals across tropical rainforests and alpine ecosystems. Jaiden has previously worked as a laboratory technician for the Division of Plant Sciences at ANU managing samples and testing thermal tolerance in mutant plants. He is passionate about science as a tool to address modern global challenges. Outside of the lab, he enjoys reading and spending time outdoors and hiking.
All the best for your research, Jaiden! We cannot wait to learn about your findings!
