Our Little penguin project is coming to a close!
We are excited to share that major outputs from our Little penguin project, delivered under the DCCEEW's Renewables Environmental Research Initiative, are now available for public consultation through DCCEEW's "Have Your Say" platform!
We are excited to share that major outputs from our project on Little penguins, completed as part of the Department of Climate Change, Energy, the Environment, and Water’s (DCCEEW) Renewables Environmental Research Initiative, are now available online for public comments! These include draft Regulatory Information aligned with EPBC Act requirements, National Survey Guidelines to support assessments of potential impacts on this species in Australia and a literature review on Little penguin ecology and potential impact pathways from offshore wind farms and associated port developments!
Over the past six months, our team, led by Assoc Prof Ana Sequeira (Australian National University) and including Dr Hannah Calich (Australian National University), Dr Dahlia Foo (Australian National University), Dr Rachel Przeslawski (Research Connect Blue), Dr Gemma Carroll (Little Penguin Expert), Prof Simon Goldsworthy (SARDI), and Dr Roger Kirkwood (SARDI), has been hard at work developing these major outputs!
Together, our project outputs synthesise existing science, identify knowledge gaps, and provide practical information about Little penguins to support consistent, high quality data collection and robust environmental assessments.
We are pleased to see these reports now available for public consultation through DCCEEW’s “Have Your Say” platform. You can access the consultation and provide feedback here: https://consult.dcceew.gov.au/draft-epbc-act-information-and-survey-guidelines-for-little-penguins
Feedback received during the consultation period will be considered when finalising the documents, which are intended to help proponents and ecological consultants prepare assessment information and enable efficient and robust environmental assessments.
Submissions close at 5 pm on Wednesday 24 June 2026.
Thanks to everyone who has helped us along the way, and to you too if you are willing to leave your feedback on Have Your Say!
