PhD Student Olga has recently returned from Sri Lanka where she attended the Sharks International Conference
Our PhD student, Olga M. Azevedo recently attended the Sharks International Conference in Sri Lanka, where she presented a poster titled “Tigers of the Sea: Are Shark Bay’s Apex Predators Feeding on Its Most Vulnerable?”. This study is part of Olga’s PhD research investigating trophic links among megafauna in Shark Bay, Western Australia.
Held every four years, the Sharks International Conference is the world’s largest shark, ray, and chimaera science conference. This year’s event brought together more than 850 delegates from over 80 countries, featuring three concurrent sessions. Olga’s poster was very well received, generating engaging discussions about tiger shark ecology and their interactions with dugongs and other marine megafauna in Shark Bay. Additionally, Olga had the opportunity to meet the representatives of the ‘Save Our Seas Foundation’, one of the organisations supporting her research and for which she is very grateful.
It is inspiring to see so many scientists engaged and interested in protecting these species! Welcome back from Sri Lanka, and congratulations on presenting our research, Olga!
