It is with great excitement that we announce our lab leader, Dr Ana Sequeira, has started a new journey as an Associate Professor at the Australian National University (ANU) - and what a better time to commit long-term to doing exciting marine research than World Ocean's Day!
After almost ten years at the University of Western Australia (UWA) and the UWA Oceans Institute, Ana has now moved to Australia's top university, which is based in Australia's national capital: Canberra. At ANU, she is part of the Research School of Biology as the Group Leader for: ‘Statistical Modelling and Marine Megafauna Conservation’, where she will continue to build marine ecological research and develop global projects. Ana's research also aims to inform policy for better conservation, which is fitting given this year's theme of World Oceans' Day is Revitalization: Collective Action for the Ocean.
Although Ana has moved to the east side of the country, she will continue to work and collaborate closely with UWA and the Oceans Institute, and all her colleagues who continue based in the west. Many of our lab members will also continue to stay in Perth, but they can't wait to visit and to see what opportunities this new chapter in our leaders' academic career will takes us. Congratulations to Ana on this great achievement and best of luck for a great career at ANU!
Have a happy World Ocean's Day from the Sequeira Lab!
