Newly published: Preserving bio-logging data for the future of wildlife
Lab Lead Ana Sequeira has just contributed to a new paper focused on maintaining access to bio-logging data.

Happy 2025! The Sequeira Lab is kicking off the 2025 news with a short post on our first journal publication of the year!
Sequeira Lab head Ana Sequeira has contributed to a recently published paper, titled “Establishing bio-logging data collections as living archives of animal life on Earth” in the prestigious journal Nature Ecology & Evolution.
Spearheaded by Dr Sarah Davidson from the Max Planck Institute of Animal Behaviour and involving 26 co-authors, the paper proposes two ambitious strategies to manage bio-logging data: first, standardising protocols and vocabularies across the globe, and second, developing universal data platforms that allow for data to be stored and archived to ensure that data can be accessed into the future.
Accessible movement data is key to understanding of wildlife responses to environmental changes and to help address key conservation issues.
Many thanks to Sarah for her great leadership and to all fellow contributors!
