Sequeira Lab is delighted to present Tasmin Engelhard, a PhB student in the lab!

Yes, you read well: PhB!

We are thrilled to introduce Tasmin Engelhard, who is currently pursuing a Bachelor of Mathematics and Statistical Biology, following a research pathway. At ANU, top tier undergrad students can enrol in a research-focused undergrad path called PhB! While on this PhB path, Tasmin has developed a strong passion for R programming and decided to join our lab for one of the research projects that PhB students need to do each semester. In her semester-long project with us, Tasmin will be collaborating with Olga on her PhD chapter focusing on understanding the movement of dugongs in Shark Bay, Western Australia (called Gathaagudu by the Traditional Owners of the region, the Malgana Peoples).

Tasmin will be analyzing tracking data and environmental variables to gain a better understanding of dugong distribution in that region, assisting Olga with comparing that distribution to that resulting from tracking data collected in the early 2000s. This PhB project will contribute to the SequeiraLab GAT project, which looks at understanding the links between key marine megafauna species across elasmobranchs, reptiles and mammals with the fantastic seagrass meadows that form key habitat in Shark Bay. Tasmin is particularly excited about the environmental aspect of this project and looks forward to contributing to our research.

Tasmin's enthusiasm for the environment and her strong analytical skills make her a very valuable addition to the Sequeira Lab. Welcome, Tasmin!
