Sequeira Lab Prepares for Shark Bay Tagging Trip
Sequeira Lab embarks on the final Shark Bay tagging trip for the GAT project!

The Sequeira Lab is gearing up for an exciting field expedition as part of the GAT (Gathaagudu Animal Tracking project)! Traveling all the way from Canberra to the iconic Shark Bay World Heritage Area, in Western Australia.
Earlier this week, the team gathered at the lab to discuss the goals and plans for the upcoming trip. It was a lively and productive session, full of energy and anticipation. As part of the meeting, Hannah introduced the new team members to the tracking devices we will be using, demonstrating how they function and showing how they will be used in the field to gather crucial data on marine animal movements.
The team’s journey to Shark Bay marks another step in the GAT project’s mission to better understand marine megafauna migration patterns and to engage with the local Malgana Peoples, the Traditional Owners of the land. This will be the final trip for the GAT project, marking the culmination of years of dedicated research and data collection in the bay. The data collected will be analysed to improve our understanding of this amazing marine ecosystem and hopefully do its share in support of global conservation efforts.
With preparations well underway, the Sequeira Lab is now almost ready to take on the challenges of doing fieldwork in such a remote and beautiful location of the world. We look forward to sharing updates from the trip and the exciting discoveries that lie ahead!
