Members of the Sequeira Lab are on their way back from Tokyo, Japan, where they had a blast at the 8th International Bio-Logging Science Symposium (BLS8)! The IBLS took place last week (4-8 March 2024) at the Ito Hall, Ito International Research Center, University of Tokyo. IBLS has a specific focus on advances in the field of telemetry and biologging, ranging from terrestrial to marine ecosystems, what means we got to catch up with many friends and colleagues doing super exciting work!
Assoc Prof Ana Sequeira gave a keynote presentation on “A global perspective on marine megafauna movement with a focus on conservation”. Dr Hannah Calich did an oral presentation sharing how our movement ecology can make more use of Statistical Physics methods. We then had three posters from PhD students from the Sequeiralab, including Ben D’Antonio, Michael Taylor and Nils Kreuter's, which ranged from insights into shark movement patterns using acoustic and satellite telemetry to space use of green turtles. Previous lab member Oliver Jewell also had a poster on the work we did tagging a tiger shark in captivity.
It was fantastic to meet with so many members of our community, and to hear about the many recent advances in the world of biologging! Big thanks to conference organizers and IBLS Executive Committee for such a nice conference.
