Sequeira Lab's PhD student Olga M. Azevedo was in Weihai, China, for a two week trip visiting the Shandong University to partake with students concepts about evolutionary biology, and assist them with practicing their research and critical analysis skills. This was part of the Master of Science from the Shandong University (SDU) and The Australian National University (ANU) Joint Science College (JSC), and the focus was on assisting the teaching of the Evolution course, convened by ANU's Associated Professor Megan Head, with Ivan Vinogradov, Diego de Moura Campos and Madalene Giannotta as part of the team.
During this visit, some of the PhD research projects being developed at the ANU Research School of Biology were also shared with the students at Shandong University, and this was when Olga got the chance to share the research she is doing in the SequeiraLab! Olga presented her current work investigating the dugong movement behaviours in Shark Bay, Western Australia. The students at the Shandong University were very enthusiastic about this research project! This trip was a great experience for Olga, who got the opportunity to immerse herself in the Chinese culture, including learning tea history and calligraphy.
We would like to thank the course convenor, all team members and staff involved, including the amazing Shandong University staff Heather, Pei and Esther. We hope to be back there again soon!
