Workshop on 'Ocean Fronts' at ANU Kioloa Campus
Lab lead Ana Sequeira has just returned from a workshop on the importance of ocean fronts for marine biodiversity!

It has been a hectic few weeks for Sequeira Lab Lead Assoc Prof Ana Sequeira! She has spent the last week away from the office again, this time to attend a workshop on the importance of ocean fronts for marine biodiversity. Organised and hosted by Dr Lee Hannah and Isaac Brito-Morales from Conservation International, this workshop is part of the Ocean Fronts Change project funded by the Belmont Forum and was held at the ANU Kioloa Campus from 9 to 13 December 2024.
It gathered scientists from Argentina (Valeria Falabella), France (Vincent Rossi, Sophie Laran), the United Kingdom (Tammy Davies), and the United States of America (Lee Hannah, Isaac Brito-Morales), as well as Australia, including Ana from the Australian National University, Chris Rohner from the Marine Megafauna Foundation, and researchers from two universities in the sunny state of Australia: University of the Sunshine Coast (Kylie Scales) and University of Queensland (Daniel Dunn).
The workshop was a follow-up from a previous workshop in Santa Barbara, California, a couple of years ago, which has resulted in some exciting outputs, including an upcoming paper on ocean fronts in the Mozambique Channel, a highly dynamic area where multiple ocean fronts converge. Many new ideas were discussed at the workshop last week including exciting work at a larger spatial scale likely to keep the team busy for a long while! Ana is excited for the continuing collaborations and the team looks forward to catching up again.
Thanks to Lee Hannah and Isaac Brito-Morales for a great workshop! And thanks to the funders for supporting such a great project.
