Every two years, the Research School of Biology (RSB) of the Australian National University (ANU) prepares a conference that brings together Early and Mid-Career Researchers (EMCRs) with students doing a High Degree by Research (HDR). And for the first time, Sequeira lab members Dr. Hannah Calich and Nils Kreuter presented their work at this conference, which took place at the end of year!
This HDR-EMCR conference included a full day of interdisciplinary presentations and networking with contributions from researchers from RSB's three divisions: Division of Ecology and Evolution, Division of Plant Sciences, and Division of Biomedical Science and Biochemistry. There was a total of 46 presentations on diverse topics ranging from the influence of urbanisation on Cockatoo behavioural diversity (Aplin Group), to vulnerabilities of culturally important plants to climate change (Nicotra Group), to methods for optimising proteins for biotechnology (Jackson Group), among many others. Hannah and Nils represented the Sequeira lab, with Hannah's talk demonstrating how interdisciplinary approaches can provide insights into how and why species follow different movement strategies. Nils presented preliminary results of his PhD research on Unveiling collective shark behaviours in Australian waters. Both talks were well received and inspired exciting conversations in the follow-up networking event.
The ANU's HDR-EMCR conference was a fantastic event and we thank all members of the organizing committee, session volunteers, staff, and faculty for supporting this great initiative, and all presenters for making the event a success!
