Last month the Sequeira lab gathered in Canberra for a 4-day end-of-year retreat at the ANU Kioloa campus. The group included lab members from both the Australian Natural University (ANU) and The University of Western Australia (UWA) and included lab leader Dr. Ana Sequeira, post-doc Hannah Calich, PhD students Michelle VanCompernolle, Michael Taylor, Ben D’Antonio and Nils Kreuter, Research Assistant Xiaohan Xu, and divisional visitor Guy McCauley.
The goal of this retreat was to work through a specific task in a collaborative and supportive environment where group members could solve and work through problems together. These tasks ranged from grant writing and learning a new analytical method to polishing off a paper ready for submission. The days consisted of independent work in the morning, followed by group activities and team building exercises in the afternoon. Group members also had the opportunity to sit down with leader Dr. Ana Sequeira for some valuable one-on-one time. Although plenty of work was done during the retreat, the group also scheduled time for other activities such as snorkeling in the pristine waters of southern NSW or hiking across the beautiful spotted gum forests of Murramarang Nation Park (where the ANU Kioloa campus is situated).
This retreat was highly productive, and we look forward to organising another one soon!
